A nearly complete Early Medieval copper alloy stirrup-strap mount of Anglo-Saxon attribution, Williams' Class A Type 1, c. 11th century AD.
The mount is pentagonal and symmetrical in form, with a flat outer surface and two intact corroded iron rivets at the base. The mount has a common right-angled flange at the base. The mount measures 47.0 mm in length, 29.8 mm at its widest point and 24.6 mm at the base and weighs 24.6 grams.
The apex bears a knop with a circular rivet hole positioned in the middle; following this, the plate has one small lobe on each side just underneath the rivet hole; the mount widens to its widest point in the middle, before narrowing again to small lobes just above the rectangular base. There are two intact corroded iron rivets in fixing holes approximately 3.0 mm in diameter towards the base of the mount. The surface has an uneven green patina and is eroded with very faint signs of a finely incised linear design in the upper part of the mount. Due to the severity of the surface abrasion no other decoration is visible.
The form of this mount is consistent with related stirrup-strap mounts dating from the 11th century AD (Cf. Williams 1997, Fig. 22, Class A mounts).
