A cast copper-alloy pelta-shaped plate brooch of Roman date, c. AD 100-200.

The brooch is incomplete, missing the tips of the wings of the pelta and the terminal of the stem as well as the hinged pin on the reverse. The pelta-shape is nearly circular, with U-shaped notches missing between the wing-tips and the incomplete stem. The face is decorated with cells, most of which retain enamel infills. A vertical line of rectangular cells alternating with red and yellow enamel runs vertically from the base of the stem across the face of the brooch to the outer edge of the pelta. Triangular cells run along the outer edge, pointing inward, running up toward the wing tips. The cells on the body of the wings are 'swirly', with S- and trumpet-scrollwork. The enamel remaining in these cells appear to be blue, red, and a red-tinged white. The reverse bears two semi-circular lugs to take a hinged pin on the reverse at the base of the pelta. On the reverse of the stem is the triangular base of a hooked catchplate, missing the hooked pinrest.
