An incomplete cast copper-alloy figurine or model of a quadrupedal animal of probable Roman date (AD 43-AD 410).
The animal has a bulbous body and the head is facing forwards and points down at an angle of about 45°. The legs survive as stubs and the tail is missing. The facial features, except for one eye, are not present. This eye is in the form of an annulet and may have been stamped. Between the hind legs, on the underside of the body, there is a small swelling representing genitalia. About mid-way along the back-bone there is a circular depression where there may have been an integral feature.
This object has patches of a well developed shiny mid-brown patina. Where the patina is lost it has bright green corrosion deposits.
Length: 40.32mm; width: 19.22mm; thickness: 14.63mm. Weight: 33.28g.
