A rim and body fragment of a Roman samian carinated bowl. The rim is rounded and thickened on the outside. Immediately below it is an incised groove running around the entire circumference of the vessel. There are also two incised lines running around the top of the rim. The outer surface has suffered some abrasion. The fabric is hard, fine and silty, and pink-brown in colour. There is an orange, slightly glossy slip on the inner and outer surfaces. There are fine white inclusions in the fabric. The sherd is 55.05mm in length and weighs 33.68 grams. The rim is 6.28mm thick, and has a diameter of 85mm. The sherd is about 6.38mm thick. The vessel is probably East Gaulish in origin: http://potsherd.net/atlas/Ware/EGTS.
