An incomplete cast copper-alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date. It is missing the attachment end due to old breaks. The strap end is rectangular in form, tapering at its base to a zoomorphic terminal. The plate is undecorated and the transverse split to enable attachment of the strap extends almost to the terminal. At the base the stylised zoomorphic terminal comprises small triangular ears, slightly bulging eyes at either end of a transverse ridge, and pointed snout that has a transverse groove at its tip as if indicating an open mouth. The back face of the object is flat and undecorated. It measures 28.24mm in length, 6.88mm in width, 4.51mm in thickness and 3.21g in weight.
This is an incomplete strap end of Early-Medieval date. It possibly falls into Thomas' Class B strap ends, although the lack of attachment end or decoration makes close attribution problematic. It is of later Early-Medieval date, c.9th century AD if not slightly later.
