A complete machine pressed silver mount, probably from a box or piece of furniture, of probable Late Post Medieval to Early Modern dating.
The mount is rectangular in plan. The front exhibits two circular domed areas as decoration. Both of them are slightly crumpled / depressed, due to soil pressure. The reverse is plain and undecorated. An incomplete iron mount is present on the reverse. It is not possible to identify the original shape of the mount.
It measures 34.96 mm in length, 24.67 mm wide and 8.80 mm thick. It weighs 8.6 g.
The artefact is a shiny light grey colour on the front and a mid brown colour on the reverse.
No direct parallel for this mount has been found at the time of recording. However with the machine pressed front, it is probably of 19th to 20th Century dating. Therefore as it is probably less than 300 years old, and it falls outside of the remit of the Treasure Act 1996 and does not need to be declared as potential Treasure.
