A Medieval - Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring dating 15th - 16th century. This finger ring has a hoop with a circular cross-section and an integral circular bezel. The bezel has been engraved with a merchant's mark comprising central 4 with a H and X conjoined and to the left of the upper section of the 4 is a triangle with pellet above, all contained within a pelleted border. This is in retrograde. 's
The diameter of this ring suggests it may have belonged to a woman.
Similar finger rings with merchant's marks have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme e .g. NMS-F36D46 and HAMP-CB7CB7.
