A copper-alloy folding strap clasp dating to the Medieval period. The frame is broadly rectangular in plan with outcurved top and bottom edges, which are 'D' shaped in section. The bar is rectangular in section and expanded in width when compared to the top and bottom edges. The outer edge is also recessed and is circular in section. Around the outer edge are the remains of the copper alloy rotating (or 'folding') end (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 118) which consists of a sheet of copper alloy bent around the outer edge, expanding in width to a thickened ridge terminal. The object measures 19.6mm in width, 16.2mm in height, 3.25mm in thickness and weighs 2.13 grams.
Egan and Pritchard (1991, 118), illustrate similar folding clasps, nos. 551 to 559, which they date from the late 13th century to the early 15th century.
