Gilt copper alloy disc pin head or brooch. The head is pierced on the left hand side, and probably once formed part of a triple-pin set. The face is divided into four sections by a central cross. Each section contains a triskle interlace design. The pin shaft is missing, however where it would have been appears to have been filed smooth. Also the reverse of the object has a soldered copper alloy suspension hook, presumably added at a later date. This would suggest that although originally a pin set, the object head was later made into a brooch. This pin is a good example of the classic 8th century type which appears to have a marked concentration in the East Midlands (for similar regional examples see: Treasure Annual Report 2000, pp39-40).
