An incomplete cast copper alloy fitting from a firearm (longarm) probably a rifle or musket of post-Medieval or Modern date (c. 1770-c. 1850).
The fitting is from the underside of the barrel and would have held the ram-rod in place. It is cylindrical in cross-section and has an incomplete integral perforated lug.
The cylindrical part tapers throughout its length and the thickness of its walls is about 2.15mm. At the largest end it has a maximum outer diameter of 11.69mm and the smaller end has a diameter of 9.15mm. Close to the larger end there is a narrow rib that does not completely encircle the object. Between the ends of this rib there is a depression in the shape of a broad arrow which is level with the lug. Mid-way along the length of the object the lug has a break across the perforation. The breaks are old.
This object is corroded and in poor condition. It is reddish brown with patches of a corroded green patina.
Length: 42.94mm; maximum diameter: 11.69mm; thickness of walls: 2.15mm. Weight: 10.09g.
