An outflaring, brimmed rim sherd from a Roman Oxfordshire Ware dish. The sherd has fired a bright orange colour and would have been typically decorated with slip on both internal and external surfaces but the surface has now completely worn off. The sherd weighs 13.54g and the rim diameter is 24cm.
Oxfordshire fine wares vessels are considered to be copying Samian Ware. Although not as common on Roman sites in South Somerset and Dorset as the New Forest Wares, Oxfordshire Ware vessels are represented on excavated sites such as Dorchester (Woodward et al 1993) and Ilchester (Leach 1982).
