A copper alloy mount with suspension loop, dating from the medieval period. The mount is rectangular in shape and still has traces of gilding on it. It is formed from two rectangular plates joined by a strip of metal bent into a suspension loop. The two plates were joined by two rivets, now missing, attached through large rivet holes. There are traces of gilding on both plates, and they are decorated with rouletting in the form of a double row of triangles along each long side. The loop is decorated with a faint band of possible rouletting along the centre. The object has a smooth green patina. Similar objects can be seen on page 219 - 221 of Dress Accessories. It is believed they were used for suspending objects from the belt, such as a knife or purse, and so acted in a similar way to arched pendant mounts. Compare SWYOR-53E766 and SWYOR-F2F658.
