SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: WAW-C69867

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A knapped late Neolithic scraper on debitage. In plan the scraper is an asymmetrical sub semi-circle. The dorsal and ventral faces are covered with a patina, but the dorsal face is has retouch around the lower curved edge, the distal end. The retouch is formed by small negative scars removing the patination. The angle of the retouch is c. 45 degrees. The ventral face (smooth face) has a bulb of percussion, and ripples. The scraper is knapped from a mottled dark grey/brown flint which has developed a blue/grey patina. The scraper, with the striking platform at the top, is 17.44mm long and is 27.48mm wide. It weighs 3.2g.

The scraper is probably a thumbnail or button scraper and dates to the later Neolithic period, c. 2500 to 2100 B.C.
