Roman copper alloy flat enamelled disc(circular pellets) brooch dating from 80 to 250 AD. The brooch consists of a circular plate with a catchplate and lug on the back. The pin is now missing. The front of the brooch has a raised rim around the outer edge and a raised annulet in the centre. Between the annulet and outer edge are six raised circular pellets. The recessed areas would have been filled with enamel or glass. On this example, green traces are visible in the outer recess and a white inlay in the central annulet but most of the enamel or glass is now lost. On the reverse, there is a flat rectangular projecting lug with rounded corners with a central circular hole for the pin to attach. Opposite the lug is the catchplate, a rectangular plate which is curved at the top to house the pin. The bend of the catchplate is worn. The brooch weighs 3.78g and measures 20.4mm in diametre and 7.4mm thick including the catchplate and lug, 2.1mm thick at the plate.
There are several examples of this type of disc brooch on the database including YORYM-118A13 showing blue and red inlay, WILT-76A495 showing blue and white inlay and CAM-58EFB4, similar to this example with no remaining inlay. Hattatt (2000: 344) illustrates a similar example, number 118.
