A near complete cast copper alloy late Iron Age or early Roman strap fitting. The fitting is comprised of a central hollowed circular dome with three open circular rings projecting to the sides at the base. The dome has four small rounded knops projecting from the sides arranged in a square; the top of the dome is damaged and it is therefore not clear if a further knop or other decorative motif was located at this point. The dome has two incised grooves running around its base as further decoration. The three rings, projecting from the base are arranged in a triangle formation. The rings are flat and sub-rectangular in section. The fitting probably served as a strap junction, possibly as part of horse harness gear or perhaps for personal adornment. The fitting has a deep greenish-brown patina.
A broadly similar parallel to this object recorded with PAS, although with a central face, rather than a domed boss is SF-F80655. Strap distributors or junctions formed from three rings, in a variety of arrangements, are known from the later Iron Age to early Roman periods and this item is dated in line with these as c. 100 BC - AD100.
