A fragment of a wheel thrown ceramic vessel of post-medieval date. The fragment is part of a handle which is ovate in section with a ribbed upper surface comprising three raised longitudinal ridges. The handle is Cistercian Ware with a mid brownish-red coloured fabric and a dark blackish-brown glaze. Cistercian Ware is common in the Midland and North of England with the greatest variety of forms being encountered in central Yorkshire (Laing, p.107).
The handle fragment is 42.7mm long, 38.4mm wide, 13,5mm thick and weighs 30.4g.
