A silver annular brooch without the pin, dating to the 13th or 14th century.
The brooch is circular with a diameter of 20.63 mm and is 3.07 mm wide. The brooch is rectangular in section and there is a small space where the metal narrows and the section becomes circular. This is where the pin would have sat although it is now missing.
The front of the brooch has an inscription which reads "IESVS : NAZA" with an initial mark of a cross inside a square frame. The reverse is undecorated.
Brooches of this type were made in the 13th and 14th centuries and it has been argued that they were made from the coinage at the time. The inscription is a shortening of "Jesus Nazarenus Rex Judaeorum" and there is some suggestion that this had apotropaic properties (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 255). Number 1337 in Dress Accessories 1150-1450 is very similar although slightly heavier in weight, perhaps due to the presence of the pin.
