Pressed and stamped three-part, hollow-domed, copper alloy button with a separate wire attachment loop at the back which is slotted through the back plate. The front of the button depicts, in relief, a crown above a trefoil bow suspending a horn which represents the Light Infantry.
The back of the button is very worn so that the backmark has almost gone, but there appears to be the letters for MORGAN and PLYMOUTH, so it is likely to be Cross & Morgan who were button makers in Stonehouse, Plymouth during the late 19th and the early 20th century.
Ivall & Thomas (1974) illustrate a similar brass rifle button of normal type on page 59, Plate W, No.264, which was worn by companies of the First Volunteer Batallion of the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry from c.1902-1908.
Wilkinson-Latham (2002) illustrates a cap badge with a crowned horn and CORNWALL on the banner below the crown, which represented the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry, on page 21, Fig.21.
