A cast copper alloy, single loop, medieval buckle, Meols type 11, dating from AD 1250 - 1350. The sides of the frame are convex and there is a recessed and offset pin bar. The thick outer edge has a central, copper alloy roller that is decorated with two pairs of circumferential grooves, one pair at each end of the roller. There is a copper alloy wire pin. This remains in place. The brooch has a light green patina. It is 18.8mm long, 17.6mm wide and 5.7mm thick. It weighs 3.63gm.
A similar buckle is illustrated in Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, 2007, Meols: The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, page 91, number 549.
