Pewter double loop trapezoidal buckle with openwork decoration and moulded projections at one side. Trapezoidal frame with incurved sides. Narrow end has scrolled mouldings at the corners and two projecting lobes flanking a bifid moulding along the edge. The other end is wider with large openwork decoration (a triangle pointing outwards and flanked by two sub-oval openings). Projecting from the corner of the wide end is a large fleur de lys lobe-there was probably another at the opposite corner but this has been broken off. The centre bar is integral and narrowed from the frame. Attached to this is an iron pin heavily corroded. The edges of the frame are bevelled. The back is flat and undecorated. Similar in overall shape to several buckles in R.Whitehead, Buckles 1350-1800, pages 84-85. Recorded at the Hidden Treasures Finds Day at the County Museum, Taunton.
