Fragment of post-medieval copper alloy knife handle end-cap with the end of an iron scale-tang sandwiched within it. Both ends are broken, one across a flat-sectioned loop and the other immediately adjacent to a rivet. The cleft into which the tang is slotted comes to an end at a collar from which the suspension loop springs. For most of the length the cross-section is hexagonal. An unusual object, serving as a combination of end-cap and scales. Extant length 27mm. Thickness / width 9 - 9.5mm. Perhaps 16th century.
