Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Ken Blackmore/Broughton finger ringA silver 'fede' finger-ring with a bezel in the form of a pair of clasped hands. The hoop is of thin, flat section and of equal width throughout. Each shoulder is marked by a band comprising four vertical grooves. The bezel is wider than the hoop and the hands, whose fingers are defined by grooves, are of stylised appearance.

Width: 24mm

Depth (bezel to back of hoop): 22mm

Height at bezel: 6.4mm

Weight: 2.28g

Notes:

Finger rings with clasped hands at the bezel were popular during the Medieval and post-Medieval periods. Stylised examples, such as this piece, probably date from the Late Medieval period. Close parallels include Treasure cases 2004 T87, T96 and T391.

This find qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
