Object type certainty: Certain

A complete cast copper alloy finger ring, of probable Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1700).

The finger ring is circular in plan, and rectangular in section. It consists of a plain wide flat hoop, with a raised square bezel. The bezel measures 5.53 mm in length, 4.97 mm wide and extends 1.9 mm above the hoop.

The finger ring has an external diameter of 23.03 mm and an internal diameter of 19.85 mm. The hoop is 5.50 mm wide and 1.56 mm thick. It weighs 3.2 g.

The finger ring is a dark brown colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

No direct parallel has been found for this finger ring at the time of recording, but the style is suggestive of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1700).
