2 silver Roman coins; denarii of Julia Augusta.
1: A silver Roman coin; a denarius of Julia Domna under Septimius Severus and Caracalla's joint reign (198 - 211), probably dating from AD 196 - 202 (Reece period 10), probably PVDICITIA reverse type showing Pudicitia enthroned left, right hand on breast, left at side. The obverse reads JVLIA AVGVSTA and shows Julia draped facing right. Mint of Rome. Compare Sear volume II number 6602, on page 494. RIC 576. The coin has a die axis of of 6 o'clock. 17.81mm diameter, 2.10mm thick, 1.89g.
2: A Roman silver coin; a denarius of Julia Domna under Septimius Severus and Caracalla's joint reign (198 - 211), probably dating from AD 203 (Reece period 10), PIETAS PVBLICA reverse type showing Pietas standing left, both hands raised in invocation, with alter at feet. The obverse reads JVLIA AVGVSTA and shows Julia draped facing right. Mint of Rome. See Sear Volume II number 6601, on page 494. RIC 574. The coin has a die axis of 7o'clock. 17.91mm diameter, 2.08mm thick, 2.08g.
As these coins were found in association, are both silver and are more than 300 years old, they meet the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act. They date from AD 203 onwards.
