A complete gold finger ring of probably Post Medieval to Modern date consisting of a simple hoop with a D shaped section. The outer face is decorated with six pairs of transverse grooves which are V shaped in section. The inner face is bevelled along one edge. There are no maker's marks or hallmarks making the ring very difficult to date.
Discussion: This finger ring is fairly undiagnostic though a Post Medieval to Modern date seems most likely. It is impossible to certify that it was deposited prior to 1712 as stipulated in the 1996 Treasure Act, thus it should not be regarded as Treasure.
Dimensions: Internal diameter: 15.51mm, width of band 2.02mm, thickness of band 1.16mm. 0.7g.
The precious metal content of this finger ring fragment fulfils the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10 %.
Subsequent action after recording: Returned to finder after being declared not Treasure
