Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Roman or medieval date (50-400 AD / 1200 - 1550). The weight is sub-cylindrical being oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. A single vertically cast hole is present running down the centre of the weight. The hole has a diameter 4.8mm. This hole was used to suspend the weight using cord or wire and aided safe-keeping and storage. The weight is undecorated. It is a mid cream colour with a polished but abraded and corroded patina that covers all surfaces. Similar weights have been dated to both the Roman and the medieval periods.
The weight measures 31.0mm in high, 29.8mm width and is 29.9mm thick. It weighs 168.25 grams (or 5.94 oz)
