Date: Post-Medieval; 16th - 17th century (?)
Description: An incomplete strip of gilded silver, probably Post Medieval in date and probably part of a finger ring.
The band is rectangular in section and has a border along each edge which consists of a double raised ridge. It is broken at each end and somewhat flattened. It is very similar in style to Post Medieval finger rings such as SWYOR-F5ABF6 (2011 T613), SUR-126873 (2011 T293) and IOW-8A5267 (2009 T512) which have been attributed 16th or 17th century dates. The parallels are all inscribed or decorated on the outer face between the borders, but this example is plain. There is no evidence of a maker's mark, but the general style and size is sufficiently similar for the fragment to be tentatively interpreted as a broken finger ring of 16th or 17th century date.
