A nearly complete cast copper-alloy early Post Medieval single sharp-hooked clasp, c. 1500-c. 1620 AD. Read Class E, Type 5, Trefoil. The hooked tag or clasp has a D-shaped upper loop, followed by a Hungerford knot with moulded hatched decoration on the trefoil; each running-end of the cord terminates with an oval pellet. The object terminates in a backward-facing hook which is lozenge-shaped in cross-section; the very end of the sharp hook is missing. It measures 32.6 mm long, 18.3 mm maximum width, 1.7 mm thick and weighs 1.88 grams. Cf. Read 2008, p110, No. 436. Similar hooked clasps and dress fittings have generally been discovered in contexts dating from c. 1500-c. 1550 AD or more generally, from c. 1500-c. 1620 AD (Read 2008, p87).
