A fragment of Early Early-Medieval (450-600) small-long brooch, consisting of the headplate and part of the asymmetrical arching bow. It measures 24.77mm in length, (max)13.64mm wide, 11.22mm thick and weighs 5.47 grams.
The bow is D-shaped in cross-section, being flat to the reverse, expanding into a rectangular moulding where it joins the headplate, the corners flattened and faceted, the bow itself narrowing to a point.
The plate is worn with apparently no original edge surviving. To the reverse are the worn remains of a lug, set slightly off-centre. To the front are several areas of pitting, probably a result of corrosion.
The metal is very worn with most of the original patina lost. The metal is now a light blue green in colour, with darker gren patches representing the surviving patina.
