A probable Post Medieval cast lead uniface token. The token carries a design consisting of a key (locking). The bit is in the form of an 'E' and the bow is a vertical oval. Above the key there is a triangular outline and below an unclear design. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a matte mid cream coloured patina. The token measures 17.33mm diameter, 1.75mm thick and weighs 2.3g.
Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850 AD), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the majority are probably Post Medieval in date c.1500-1800.
This token has been dated broadly as probably Post Medieval c.1500-1800.
