A Medieval to post-Medieval leg/foot from a cast copper-alloy cooking vessel (c. 1250-c. 1650 AD).
The object is trapezoidal in cross-section throughout its length, wider at the front than the back. On the front there is a central vertical rib. The base is flat and the top ends in an old abraded break. It is 36.3mm long,27.8mm wide, 29.2mm thick and weighs 79.69 grams.
Cast cooking vessels seem to have come into use in the second half of the 13th century and to have continued at least until c. 1650 (Geake 2001, 52).Butler, Green and Payne (2009, pg 4) suggest that this form (their Type A) was widespread in the Medieval period, but examples are known into the early 17th century.
