Middle Saxon copper alloy Ansate brooch, rectangular sectioned, the bow bent into a low hump. Separate pin lug and catchplate secured by iron rivets, both are missing. The front is decorated with four sets of four oblique lines in a saltire arrangement between punched dots, separated by five transverse ribs each with multiple transverse engraved lines. Copper alloy rivet through one end (probably a repair) with corroded copper alloy fragment on the reverse of one terminal, patch of possible solder on the reverse of the other. Thörle 2001 Gruppe XI. Length 48mm. Width 9mm. 3mm thick. 8th century.
