Copper alloy seal matrix. Cast circular die with integral hexagonal section handle tapering to an apical suspension loop with drilled aperture of diameter 2.2mm, smoothed by wear. The matrix presents a crucifixion scene, possibly with twin trails of the Holy Blood descending from each of the outstretched arms of Christ. A circumferential legend is apparently of six angular characters with a star at 12 O'clock. It appears to read: * R ?E ? I T C; this might include the formula INRI or the Holy Name IESVS, or a derivative of either, and appears to includes both retrograde and normally aligned letters. It would at all events appear to fit into the later medieval pattern of personal devotion. Suggested date: Later Medieval, 1350-1500.
Height: 18mm, Diameter (matrix): 15.5mm, Weight: 4.14gms.
Inscription:
* R ?E ? I T C
