An incomplete cast-copper alloy Early medieval stirrup-strap mount. The mount is trapezoidal in shape, with a zoomorphic openwork design consisting of a projecting oval head with large ears, possibly intended to be a deer. There are two pairs of sub-oval apertures, two smaller ones above the ears and two larger ones to either side of the face. the mount is broken at the point of the left-hand aperture to the side of the face. There are traces of additional scrolling curvinlinear design around the remainder of the frame but this is very worn. The attachment flange at the base of the mount is set at a diagonal angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane of the front plate and is 6mm wide; traces of one circular iron rivet remain. Traces of an additional circular iron rivet at the apex of the mount can also be seen. The design conforms closely to David Williams Class B type 3, a type he associates with the Lincolnshire area. See LIN-F25561 for a similar find. Williams dates this type of mount to AD 1000-1100.
In common with other 11th Century copper-alloys, there is a red discolouration on the surface although traces of a deep green patina also survives in patches.
