A complete cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl probably dating to the Medieval period. The object is sub-circular in plan with a domed upper face and a flat rear face. At the centre, a vertical circular perforation has an internal diameter of approximately 10.3mm. The upper face is decorated with four raised lines radiating from the centre with a raised pellet in each compartment. The flat rear face is undecorated. The upper face of the spindle whorl is worn and rear face is chipped. The object has a light, white patina. Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts from the Roman through to the Medieval periods. However, most are typically dated to the Medieval period. Diameter: 27.52mm. Thickness: 8.75mm. Weight: 31.46g
