A cast copper alloy Medieval horse harness pendant horizontal suspension bar, c. 13th-15th c AD. The pendant is missing.
The suspension mount is sub-rectangular in plan, a small semi-circular collar and elongated tri-lobed knops at either end (one end of knop is missing), each knop with a central circular rivet hole; the rivets are missing. The bar is generally sub-triangular in cross-section, with a concave rear face, except for the elongated knop ends which are flat and hemispherical in section. The suspension attachment arm is oriented in the centre of the suspension mount bar and consists of a small protruding arm, triangular in cross-section, terminating in two parallel suspension loops with small central rivet holes. The loops are positioned so that a pendant suspension loop may be inserted between them. The suspension mount measures 41.9mm long; 13.7mm maximum width, including parallel loops; 2.8 mm approx. diameter (rivet holes); 4 mm thick at bar; 2.3mm approx. thickness at end knops; 6.8 mm long (suspension loops). It weighs 4.47 grams.
A similar mount can be found in Read 2001, Vol 1, No. 389, dated to c. 14th century AD.
