A incomplete cast lead alloy hanging steelyard weight of uncertain, but probable Roman date. The weight is biconical with a flat base and slightly truncated top. There is a hole running through it from bottom to top which appears to contain the remains of the iron suspension loop. There is damage and corrosion around the central hole. The overall dimensions of the weight are 31.9mm diameter, 25.1mm tall, and it weighs 110.74g. Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are difficult to date precisely, although weights of this shape are common to the Roman period.
