Probably an Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian)-Medieval cast-copper-alloy strap fitting (c. 950-1100).

The fitting is sub-triangular and symmetrical in plan. It has one large and five small openings. All the smaller openings are of the same diameter. The large opening is situated at one end and there is a smaller opening at the opposite end. There are four openings at the broader end, two at each side. The front face has an indeterminate design in low relief. It has the remains of a separate copper-alloy rivet which is slightly off-centre.
The metal is reddish-brown with some light green and off-white corrosion products. The object is worn.

This fitting is possibly Anglo-Scandinavian of later tenth/eleventh century date. However, nothing survives in the decoration which would support this on stylistic or typological grounds.
