An incomplete copper-alloy penannular brooch (Fowler Type A3 - plain bosses with mouldings) dating to the Roman period. The incomplete ring is plain and circular in section. It extends to a single mushroom-shaped terminal with a narrower collar below. The pin is missing. The brooch has a diameter of 31mm and the ring, a thickness of 3mm. The terminal measures 6mm by 3mm. The brooch weighs 3.8g. Fowler Type A3 pennanular brooches have 'knob terminals with additional mouldings'. Mackreth 2011, 213 comments that this is a type that spans the first to third century AD, but does not run into the fourth century AD.
