A copper-alloy penannular brooch (Fowler Type A2 - knurled knobs) dating to the Roman period. The ring is plain and circular in section. It extends to globular, knurled terminals. The pin is missing. The brooch has a diameter of 22mm and the ring, a thickness of 2mm. Each terminal measures 3mm by 4mm. The brooch weighs 2.2g. Penannular Type A2 brooches possess 'terminals consisting of milled knobs'. Mackreth 2011, 212 notes that 'none appears to be mid first century; none need to be first century at all. There is also, considering the quanity of dating, a fall off in the fourth century which may mean that scarcely any were being made by then.'
