A cast copper alloy derivative trumpet brooch dating to the Roman period, c. AD75-175. The object has a semi-circular head which is D-shaped in cross-section. From this the sub-rectangular bow expands outwards and downwards. The centre of the bow is decorated with four circular cells which are in-filled with red enamel. In the centre of the bow is an expanded knop. Above and blow the knop is a collar which is decorated with a series of vertical grooves.
The leg of the brooch is sub-triangular in cross-section and undecorated. It tapers towards the foot which is rounded. Above the rounded foot are four circular mouldings. On the rear of the object the lug contains the remains of the spring. The pin is missing and the catchplate is incomplete. The object has a dark brown patina and is in good condition.
