A cast copper alloy spur rowel of post medieval date. The rowel is flat and has eight points. There are incised grooves radiating from the centre of the rowel to the tip of each point. Each point is petal shaped or sub lozenge shaped, with the lower third of each linked to its neighbours. There is a large circular perforation which has been worn into an oval; it is 5.16mm diameter. The object has a mid red brown colour with the remains of a rich dark green patina in places. Similar rowels date either to the 16th or 17th century; a comparable example is HAMP-A89734 which cites similar examples in Read (1988; 1995, 127; refs. 805, 806).
