Medieval copper alloy mount in the form of a woman's head, 54mm high and 41mm wide (at base) and 24mm deep. It is in good condition with a green patina and weighs 157 grams. The face is primitively carved with two wide incised eyes and incised lips beneath a crude and almost flat nose. The hairstyle has a central parting above wavy lines showing the hair has been pulled to the side and then forwards. Where the hair meets the face at the sides it looks as though it has been wound around something as it is tucked in and frames the face. The back of the head is slightly rounded and has a large circular depression, 14mm deep and 10mm in diameter, in its centre. The figure has a round neck which then spreads to form a rounded terminal at the front, a bit like a ships figure head. At the sides of the neck is a shallow groove and below this, on each side, emerges part of the vessel rim at an oblique angle, forming a semi-circle edge to the base of the figure. The back of the figures neck also has a horizontal groove cut into it, just above the vessels edge. The late Geoff Egan had noted that the hairstyles on these objects are 14th Century but that the figure is probably from a laver of 15th or early 16th century date.
