An incomplete cast copper alloy fitting of uncertain form, function and dating.
The object is semi circular in plan, and sub rectangular in cross section. File marks are present on the exterior curved surface. The remnants of a vertical perforation are present at either end. A horizontal casting flash is present on the interior curved surface.
It measures 63.09mm in length, 14.73mm wide and 10.46mm thick. It weighs 48.6 grams.
No direct parallel has yet been found for this artefact. Suggestions have included part of a circular fixed seating for something else (ie bottom bit, this bit, top bit) or part of a timing ring from a mortar shell or similar modern military thing.
