Part of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch, probably a late Colchester type, or Colchester derivative type dating from AD 43 - 100. Only part of the lower bow and part of the catchplate survive. The bow is chunky and is circular in section. The front of the bow is decorated with a recessed panel filled by two longitudinal wavy lines in relief. The recessed areas may have been enamelled. There is a slightly knopped foot. The catchplate was openwork or fretted, but not enough survives to be able to deduce the design. There were at least two openings. The top of the fragment is a patinated break. Compare NCL-AE33D5
