Object type certainty: Certain

A copper-alloy unidentified object, possibly a catchplate from a Roman bow brooch. The artefact is broadly triangular in plan, one end has been folded in upon itself, similar to a catchplate from a brooch. In plan the artefact tapers towards the base. The artefact is bent and broken on the fold near the the tapering base. Corrosion product is visible on the length of the curved edge. The artefact bears similarities to a catchplate, if this identification is correct it is a separate catchplate to be attached to a brooch instead of a fragment of a brooch. The artefact is very thin (0.5mm thick) and is 32.60mm in length, 13.1mm wide and 1.9mm max thickness (thickness of the fold) it weighs 0.92 grams. The thin material questions the possible identification of a catchplate, it could be suggested that a thin catchplate would be impractical.
