SPINDLE WHORL

Unique ID: LVPL-608805

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Cast lead spindle whorl, probably medieval in date. The object is oval in plan and slightly bent, with a central perforation surrounded by eight trapezoidal perforations forming a wheel shaped pattern. The object has a greenish white patina.

Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority have a single perforation hole and are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1066-1500.
