An unidentified fragment of a cast copper alloy object, possibly a Post Medieval-early Modern scabbard piece, such as a chape. The object consists of a sub-triangular flat plate, which has a sub-oval end with the remains of what looks like a rivet; the rivet end might have held another plate onto the reverse side of the intact plate, in order to hold another element. It seems likely that this object is composed of copper alloy, with an iron rivet; however, there is significant iron corrosion and staining on all surfaces of the object, suggesting that the item held within it was made of iron. This may help to support the idea that this object functioned as part of a scabbard or chape-end. The object measures 44.6 mm long, 15 mm maximum width; 8.2 mm wide and 6.6 mm thick at rivet-end; it weighs 5.94 grams.
