An incomplete, Post-Medieval copper-alloy toy cannon dating between c. AD 1675 - 1800. The barrel is called a cascable and the knop at the end of the breech chamber a cascable button. The barrel has circumferential mouldings and a breech chamber with a vent-hole sometimes referred to as a 'touch-hole'. There are two trunnions or basal lugs for attachment to a block or stock that are circular in cross-section. The trunnions sat in the top of the cheeks of the gun carriage and enabled the piece to be elevated. The muzzle flares outwards and is slightly misshapen. The canon is similar to other cannons on the database such as PUBLIC-091D13 and WAW-44E267. It measures 40.5 mm long, 8.7 mm diameter (open end), 10.2 mm diameter (breech chamber end), 5.5 mm diameter (cascable button), 3.9 mm interior canon diameter at opening; it weighs 14.69 grams. Forsyth and Egan (2005, pp 79-84) discuss various types of toy canon; cf. especially No. 1.5 (c. late 17th-early 18th century) and No. 1.6 (c. early-mid 18th century).
