A fragment of a cast copper alloy vessel of medieval to post-medieval date. The fragment is part of the rim of a probable cooking vessel and is sub-rectangular in shape and rectangular in cross-section. The fragment is fairly even in thickness though there is a slight swelling at the rim edge. Both surfaces are smooth and the remains of a pot mend can be seen projecting through. The breaks are very worn.
The metal is a dark blackish-brown colour and is worn. The fragment is 44.9mm long, 47.6mm wide, 3.9mm thick and weighs 44.9g.
Crude cast copper alloy vessels for cooking and serving were widely used during the period AD 1200 - 1700 and were increasingly common during the 13th and 14th centuries.
